  • Sheepsfoot Trade Knives (7-5-11)
  • I will soon have available a French/Flemish styled sheepsfoot trade knife. This will be a relatively plain knife with a round turned boxwood grip, and only a bit more in cost than the other trade knives I offer. It will have a brass ferrule plate on the front of the grip, and a steel butt plate. It will have a through tang peened over the butt plate. This will not be a direct copy of any one historical artifact, but more of a generic composite of that type of knife. The grip will be slightly longer than most originals, as they were quite short by todays standards, and hand sizes. If interested, please check my site on occasion, or contact me. I expect to post it as an offering by August.

  • CENTER-SEAM SHEATHS (6-5-11)
  • All my center seam sheaths are now being finished with the historically correct "cuir bouilli" hardening treatment. This is basicly a heat treatment for leather that acually hardens the internal structure of the leather, adding a better degree of safety in use, and durability. The treated leather becomes more cut and puncture resistant. Another plus is better resistance to water. This process does not make the leather water proof, but makes it more resistant, and less likely to deform if it gets wet. The process goes back in time to at least the medieval period, and I suspect well beyond.
